About Me
'Turning the tanker' started a decade ago when I was doing a degree in Historic Building Conservation at Kingston Univerity. Working in construction but also having a passion for history and, art in particular since I was 4 years old, were combined in my studies. I was also fascinated by the traditional crafts being taught at my place of learning, the Building Crafts College in Stratford, London. I took myself off to learn about glass - stained glass, glass fusing and hot glass. I even built my own tiny glass studio at the bottom of the garden and for my elective project made a stained glass panel inspired by the geometry in Canterbury Cathedral.
Little by little I fell out of love with the construction industry and turned more and more back to art. The Covid years were defining for me. I made a decision! I took a deep breath and resigned, believing I could survive for 6 months until I found something more meaningful. I'm still surviving!
I started doing courses at West Dean College near Chichester. 3 years down the line, I have never been happier. My self belief is back. I do art because it pleases me. I have much to learn and doubtless those in the business will tell me so at some point. Do you know what? If they do, I shall be grateful they noticed me and chalk it up as a win!
